Controversy between Youth from Matani and Pankisi

On August 18, an incident occurred between Kist and Georgian young people in Duisi village, Pankisi Gorge. Witnesses said the quarrel started in Duisi and then continued in Matani. Locals claim a group of young people from Matani quarreled with the residents of Duisi village in Pankisi Gorge.

Human Rights Center, Public Advocacy, Article 42 of the Constitution, Media Institute condemn dismantle of mosque minaret in Tchela village in Adigeni district by Revenue Service on August 26. Nongovernmental organizations are particularly disturbed with the coarse forms used against Muslim citizens during dismantle of the minaret that may be identified as insult of religious feelings.

Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance spread statement about the incidents in Tchela village of Adigeni district. According to the Service, on August 26, Minaret was dismantled for further inspection and after the inspection is over the Revenue Service will install the Minaret in the same place.

Traditional Friday Prayers Were Conducted without Local Muslim Residents in Samtatskaro

On July 19, traditional Friday prayer was conducted without local Muslim residents in Samtatskaro Muslim Chapel. Deputy Mufti of Kvemo Kartli region Adam Shantadze conducted the service and only five persons attended it. In parallel to that, police officers were mobilized in several spots in the village. Head of Lagodekhi district police Giorgi Gugunauri and his deputy were in the village too. Representatives of Public Defender’s Office also arrived in the village on Friday.

Disappeared Mojaheds

After Bidzina Ivanishvili came in power, two Mojaheds disappeared in Georgia. Mikael Kadoev disappeared late last year when he was transported from Batumi to Tbilisi by the officers of the Counter-Terrorist Center of the MIA. Magamed Magamedov disappeared on April 19. Information Center of Kakheti tried to find out whether the trace of the missing Mojaheds goes towards Georgian MIA.

Human Rights Center calls upon the government of Georgia and international organizations to get interested in the disappearance of Magamed Magamedov. The latter arrived in Georgia in 2012 from Dagestan and requested political shelter here. He was registered in Georgia as asylum-seeker. In 2013 Magamedov disappeared from Tbilisi and nothing has been known about his whereabouts so far.
