Batumi City Hall Warned Political Parties

Supervision service at the Batumi City Hall sent warning letters to the political parties participating in the upcoming local self-governmental elections about their possible fining. Political parties have two days to remove election posters from the prohibited areas in Batumi.

At the approaching local self-governmental elections, number of candidates for the position of the Gori Mayor is increasing. Georgian Dream’s candidate is Zurab Jirkvelishvili; United National Movemnet nominated Archil Sabiashvili for the position; election bloc Burjanadze – United Opposition nominated lawyer Mamuka Nozadze; Irakli Okruashvili-Georgian Party nominated Kakhaber Ergemlidze and Tamaz Makashvili will join the poll from the Unity Hall.

Based on the decision of the Central Election Commission, former Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili cannot participate in the local elections; the decision was made next day after Okruashvili registered as a candidate for the position of Gori Mayor. The CEC studied his case based on the complaints filed by chairman of the political movement For Fair Georgia Sergo Javakhadze and leader of the People’s Party Mamuka Giorgadze.

Gori Municipal Board Supported Version – “One Plus Five”

On March 27, there were five issues on the agenda of the special session at Gori municipal board. First issue referred to administrative-territorial optimization of the district. 25 board members attended the session. 21 of them voted for the initiative and four were against. With majority votes, municipal board adopted “one plus five” format of administrative-territorial optimization.

Akhalgori District Governor Resigned

Akhalgori district governor Zurab Gatenashvili resigned. Based on the decision of the Akhalgori municipal board, Nugzar Tinikashvili will implement duties of the district governor during three months. Tinikashvili told Human Rights Center that municipal board had offered the position to him. After three months, competition will be announced and applicants for the district governor’s position will be able to submit applications. Interim district governor Nugzar Tinikashvili said he will also participate in the competition.
