Price on wheat increases day-by-day. People in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region cannot plant wheat so they have to buy bread. In this situation expensive life bothers villagers and city dwellers in similar way. Entrepreneurs cannot maintain prices on bread.

Students of Medical Faculty within the Gori State University blame University Administration for inattention. Klara Elchibegashvili, rector of the University said in her conversation with the Human Rights Center (HRIDC) that students’ rights are not violated at the high school and have no reasons for complaining.
Land Argument -Batumi City Hall Sold Tarielashvilis’ Land in Khelvachauri

Nevrestan Tarielashvili, a resident of the village of Angisa in the Khelvachauri district has argument with Batumi City Hall regarding the land. Last year City Hall sold the land to the firm “Edelweiss” that was to start construction on it. It turned out that the Tarielashvilis paid taxes on the land till 2003 in vain.

Gonio Residents Are not Allowed to Start Constructions

Shakro and Meri Kokoladzes, residents of the village of Goinio in the Khelvachauri District started construction of the hotel several years ago. At the moment there is a comfortable two-storied-house in the yard, though it is not roofed yet. “We have decided to build some more stories on the building. We have prepared project on it but the Administrative Board refused us to start construction until September for uncertain reasons,” said Meri Kokoladze.
Tourists Get Lost in the Darkness of Uflistsikhe

A lot of tourists visit Uflistsikhe. Because of heat the visitors prefer to see the historical monument in the evening, but the surrounding area is not illuminated. Nobody knows where eighty illuminations disappeared which were delivered from Tbilisi in Gori in autumn of 2006. This problem emerged as soon as tourist season arrived and visitors started to encounter problems to see the monument.

Residential Houses of Chakvi Population Will Soon Be Dismantled

“Books from Kutaisi” Remain Homeless

“On July 26, Kutaisi residents will witness unprecedented fact. The police will carry out books from the shop into the street and close the door in front of us. They have postponed the eviction twice but on July 26 final term expires. As for these books they will remain in the street. We do not have any place to take them for some time. There is only one book-shop in Kutaisi which has sixty-year-long history. However, the shop is about to stop its existence,” said Jemal Svanidze, Director of the Kutaisi Book-shop # 1 in his conversation with the Human Rights Center’s (HRIDC) Kutaisi Office.
Illegally Evicted Family Lives in Garage

The executor of the court evicted the family of Ednar Beridze from their flat in Khimshiashvili Street # 94 and they have sheltered into a neighbor’s garage for more than a month. The family is afraid of being evicted from their temporary shelter too because the authority is actively dismantling garages. Nikoloz Gegeshidze, the lawyer for the victim family, said that the Beridzes are illegally evicted from the falt. The court will soon discuss their case.
Sport Academy Is About to Be Sold

Protest demonstrations have been held for a week already to protect Sport Academy from abolishment. According to the decision of the Ministry of Sport, Culture and Monument Protection Academy is going to join Ilia Chavchavadze State University. Students and lecturers of the Academy, as well as veteran sportsmen, claim that the situation will result into a total collapse in Georgian sport and they are not going to give in.

State Deceived Small Entrepreneurs

Although the Georgian Parliament introduced amendments to the Law on Privatization of State Property, it is not followed in Adjara. Those amendments stated that “enterprise, located in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, with total price of 100 thousand lari, will be privatized by its employees. Those enterprises have either domestic profile or work in public nutrition.” Representatives of the Ministry of Finances and Economics of Adjara stated that enterprises mentioned in the draft law do not exist in the autonomous republic. Consequently, the Ministry refused nearly 35 small entrepreneurs to purchase their entities and sold them on the auctions. Small entrepreneurs brought suit against the Adjara Ministry of Financiers and Economics at the court.

30 % of Schools Remained Without Directors

On July 7 a new stage of the elections of directors started in public schools. According to the Ministry of Education and Science only 70% of candidates were elected by Board Councils. Elections were held through violation of rules in Kakheti Region. Candidates claimed that members of the Board Councils were suppressed by former directors.
Professor at the Tskhinvali University Is Persecuted Because of His Statements

Kakha Toliashvili, associated professor for the Tskhinvali State University, is punished because of his article published in local newspaper. University Administration made an administrative resolution to fire Kakha Toliashvili from the University. The professor is accused for having insulted the reforms going on at the university.
Mother of Five Children Went on Hunger Strike in front of the Court Building

Mother of five under-age children went on a hunger strike in front of the Gurjaani District Court. Ema Nozadze, an Ossetian woman, a resident of the village of Kitaani, blames local law enforcers for breaching the law. She protests the court decision under which she was bailed for 2 thousand lari.
One More College Is Going to Be Closed in Batumi

Students and lecturers of the abolished Batumi State Multifield College are holding protest demonstrations. They demand to maintain their college. Aleksi Chikvaidze, Ministry of Education in Adjara Autonomous Republic stated that several Batumi based colleges were optimized which will have better output in the future. Jumber Tavartkiladze, representative of the People’s Party, organized the demonstration and stated the Ministers are enemies of education.
