Ministry of Environment Protests Mtivlishvili’s Letter
On January 16 Human Rights Center published a letter on its portal www.humanrigts.ge with the following headline: “Bail of Five Thousand Lari and Six-Year-Imprisonment for Taking Scattered Fire-Wood from the Forest.” The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources considers that the fact of illegal use of fire-wood is incorrectly revealed in the letter and bears responsibility to provide the society with correct information.

Ilia Chachibaia editor of the magazine “Gia Bocklomi” and leader of the Zugdidi office of the “Equalitarian Institute” noticed his necked photos assembled with woman’s body in the center of the town on 27 January. According to subscript on the posters Chachibaia offered his clients sexual service at reasonable prices. Editor of the magazine names Vakhtang Gabelia, official of the Constitutional Security Department’s (CSD) Zugdidi branch as an author and performer of the idea. Ilia Chachibaia demands law enforcers to start investigation and urges to human rights organizations to defend his rights.

Disabled People Will Start Protest Demonstrations

Counting of the votes and compellation of final protocols was assessed as “bad” and “very bad”. Observers from the mission claim that they have witnessed how the protocols were tempered alongside many other violations.
“Shinny New Meters” brings more troubles
The extended and almost never-ending period of darkened houses and dark streets is over in Georgia. It is a period in Georgian history that people want to forget. Flats were cold, gas and fuel to cook was in short supply and life was miserable.  Poor Georgians went to the street to protest and at least the fires they set in the street were sources to warm their bones and diminished spirits. At least now there is a constant supply of electricity but there are still many problems.

According to the initial information, the Parliamentary Elections of 2008 will be held in May. Nino Burdjanadze, chairwoman of the Georgian Parliament, stated that the list of MPs will be transformed and representatives of the society will be more professional. Currently Kakheti region has twelve representatives in the Georgian Parliament but in the future there might be only one MP from the region.

“I took hens out of the hen-house and I entered there to live. Initially I slept in the car; but I could not stand the cold there. Now I live in the hen-house,” said Rezo Bagrationi, (a royal surname of Georgia) a retired person. The house of Bagrationi is so damaged that he cannot stay inside like all his neighbors. Model Houses in the Entry of Zugdidi
According to the direction of the President of Georgia dated by November 7, 2007 the Georgian Ministry of Finance has apportioned 560 000 lari from the President’s Reserve Fund to repair and paint facades of the houses in one part of Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue, situated at the entrance to Zugdidi. The research carried out on atmospheric air pollution a few years ago, showed that the health of 11 % of the Tbilisi population was in danger. The main reasons for pollution were low quality fuel and cars. Nowadays, the main reasons for air pollution remain the same, but no new research has been conducted. Nobody knows whether the percentage of people in danger has increased or decreased.

Aleksi Bakhutov was arrested on 27 June, 2007. Kakheti Regional Prosecutor’s Office blamed him for premeditated murder of Lasha Chopikashvili, and Telavi Regional Court sentenced him to six-year-imprisonment. During the investigation Bakhutov was so severely tortured that he blamed other people for having committed the crime together with him.
