Gocha Jojua: Gelbakhiani Was Holding Negotiations with Kodua to Avoid Repressions

December 24, 2007

According to Gocha Jojua, the member of the election staff of the presidential candidate Badri Patarkacishvili, Valeri Gelbakhiani the head of their staff was negotiating with Irakli Kodua the head of Special Operative Department (SOD) within the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in order to avoid possible repressions.

Today the Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office has released the video-recording where Gelbakhiani is talking about the state overthrow with Kodua.

Jojua claims that Gelbakhiani aimed to avoid the repression concerning the election and tried to hamper the punitive machine that is supposed to start working during the election campaign. Regarding the situation Gelbakhaini was offering some guarantees to Kodua.

”Mikheil Saakashvili also conducted negotiations with Valeri Khaburdzania,  former Minister of Security Office and Koba Narchemashvili, former Minister of MIA in order to avoid all possible tension of the situation... Kodua was the weakest ring in this system because he did not have good relations with other departments,” added Jojua.

Jojua stated that Kodua requested Gelbakhiani to give him full guarantee of his invulnerability as well as of his business; the reason of his requests is numerous crimes the head of the SOD has committed.”
