Georgian Young Lawyers Association Demands the Declaration of the Results of Two Polling Stations in Tbilisi Invalid

January 8, 2008

Today by 3 p.m. the observers from GYLA prepared 95 complaints on the violations that had been observed during the voting process in polling stations in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Batumi.

Giorgi Chkheidze, chairperson of GYLA, expressed gratitude towards Central Election Commission today at the briefing conducted in the Media Center and pointed out that CEC receives information from them about the violations quickly and reacts on them adequately.

According to Chkheidze's information, the polling boxes were not sealed during the polling in polling station # 50, Batumi District and polling station #10, Vake District in Tbilisi.

There were facts of illegal campaigning in polling stations # 29 and # 30, Krtsanisi District and for that reason GYLA demanded to declare the election process invalid in the above-mentioned polling stations.

Chkheidze stated that in some election districts the commission did not have enough envelopes and voters from the additional list had to use ordinary envelopes to put their ballot papers. Under the law it is violation.
