Georgian Journalists Demand Immediate Release of the Correspondent for the TV Company “Mze”

Journalists working in the regions of Georgia protest the detention of the journalist Malkhaz Basilaia for the TV Company “Mze” and demand his immediate release.

The Human Rights Center’s journalists working in the regional offices in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Adjara Autonomous Republic, Shida Kartli and Imereti, appeal to all international organizations and diplomatic corps to react on the situation and release the detained journalist immediately.

Unless the demand is satisfied the regional journalists intend to hold protest demonstration in front of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Georgia.

The Human Rights Center has joined the appeal and categorically condemns the fact.

Malkhaz Basilaia, the head of the Samegrelo Bureau of the TV Company “Mze” was arrested on February 26 while he was implementing his professional activities near the Enguri Bridge.
