Georgian Side Urges the UN and OSCE to Release Georgian Journalist

February 27, 2008
The Administration of the Georgian Ministry for Reintegration expresses deep concern regarding the detention of Malkhaz Basilaia, the head of the Zugdidi Bureau of the TV Company “Mze” by Abkhaz law enforcers.

Abkhaz militiamen arrested Basilaia close to the block post # 201 of Russian peace-keepers. He was revealing the on-going Russian preliminary presidential elections in Gali District.

The Administration of the State Minister appeals to Luis Arbur, the UN Human Rights High Commissionaire, to Jan Anro, special representative of the UN Secretary-General and ambassadors of the OSCE countries to do their best to support the release of arbitrarily detained Georgian journalist immediately.
