Discussion Requested by Elene Tevdoradze of Georgian Public Defender’s Annual Report

March 7, 2008
Elene Tevdoradze, the chairperson of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Parliamentary Committee, requests the parliament to reach a decision on the discussion of the annual report of provided by the Georgian Public Defender.

The MP stated at the bureau session that before parliamentary elections three plenary sessions should be held in the supreme legislative body.

The report of the Public Defender should be discussed on time. Tevdoradze petitioned to the Procedural and Regulation Committee of the Parliament to find time for the discussion.

Mikheil Machavariani, the deputy speaker of the Georgian Parliament, replied to Elene Tevdeoradze, that the question should be raised at the bureau session on Monday again. He said that Nino Burjanadze, the chairperson of the Parliament, will already have arrived back to Georgia and the MPs will reach a decision about the report’s discussion in collaboration with the chairperson.

The Georgian Public Defender presents his annual reports twice a year, in spring and in autumn.

Unfortunately, the Georgian Parliament has not discussed the autumn report either.
