Georgian Soldier Disappeared without a Trace

Georgian soldier missing

Nodar Gengiuri, 23, a soldier of the first infantry brigade of the Defence Ministry of Georgia, has been missing for the last 6 days and the search continues. He is a contract soldier servicing his duty at the Orpolo Military Training Base.

Today relatives and family members have assembled at Gori, Shida Kartli region military base. According to them, Gengiuri’s whereabouts are mysterious since he was sent on his duty to Orpolo base along with two other soldiers and that was the last that was seen of him.

Gengiuri was last seen in the village of Tsnisi in Akhaltsikhe District with his friends on Friday. He was with other contractor soldiers, Shota Lomidze and Zviad Devadze. Villagers last saw him on his way to the bridge.

Military Police of Akhaltsikhe District does not make comments on the incident. However, the investigation has already started and villagers were interrogated. Shota Lomidze and Zviad Degadze are arrested. Criminal case was launched under the Georgian Criminal Code Article 115 that that considers it a crime to lead a person to the conditions that would make him have a desire to commit suicide.

Today, villagers of Kveshiti in the Gori district gathered near the place where the last trace of Gengiuri could be found before he disappeared. Gengiuri comes from Kveshiti. The villagers claim that they are not hopeful the police will succeed. They intend to look for the lost soldier on their own.
