Corruption on Georgia-Azerbaijan Border

April 17, 2008
Human Rights Centre appeals to the Department of Revenues and Investigative Department of the Georgian Ministry of Finances, General Inspection of the Frontier Police to react on the corruption reigning at the Customs House on the  Georgia-Azerbaijan border.

The Human Rights Center was informed that hundreds of people transport smuggled fuel from Azerbaijan to Georgia by their cars. The customers do not pay attention to the violation. “Representatives of the Human Rights Center observed that smugglers and custom officers have made deals. More precisely, the custom officers get ten GEL from each person who travels to Azerbaijan twice a day.”

Local population also speaks about the corruption at the border.
