Chairperson of Gori Municipality Board Insulted Journalist

May 20, 2008

Zviad Khmaladze, chairperson of the Gori Municipality Board, verbally insulted Saba Tsitsikashvili, coordinator of the Human Rights Center’s Gori office in the room of the Press Service Center of the municipality board. Zviad Khmaladze became irritated after having read some articles the journalist had recently published.

The short list of those articles are: “Gori Municipality Board is Not Aware What’s Going On”…”Municipality Board Built a New Fence Around the Building”; “Swindlers of Facades”; “Khmaladze Aims To Become a Regional Governor”, etc. These articles were also published in a local newspaper “Kartlis Khma”.

Zviad Khmaladze called the journalist dishonest person. However, this was more than  an exchange of words, and  Tsitsikashvili intends to appeal to the Public Defender to protect his guaranteed rights under the law as a journalist. Incidentally, as a footnote, Davit Tkeshelashvili, Minister of Regional Management, is the Godfather of Zviad Khmaladze’s son.
