Today Member of New Rights Was Severely Beaten

June 2, 2008

Giorgi Tavdgiridze, a member of the New Rights and former rector of the Military Academy, was beaten by unidentified people under the Dighomi Bridge in Tbilisi.

The victim reported that strange cars chased him after he left home. Tavdgiridze was going to the New Rights office when four cars crossed his way. Three masked people got out of the cars and beat him.

Mamuka Katsitadze, member of the News Rights, reported to the Medianews that Tavdgiridze has bruises on his face and body. Harassers beat him with iron club in his legs and now his leg is broken.

Mamuka Katsitadze assesses the incident as political revenge and states the government tries to threaten opposition parties by terror. He added that recently more and more members of their party have been beaten. However, law enforcers do not react on the incidents.
