Prisoners Were Beaten at Gori Police Station

June 4, 2008

Three detainees were beaten in the pre-trial isolator at the Gori Police Station. During the trial Nino Gergauli, judge of the Gori District Court, demanded Gori district prosecutor to investigate those facts.

Koba Pavliahsivli, Naskida Merebashvili and Vladimer Bolotashvili were arrested on June 2 for having robbed taxi-driver. All of them were severely beaten. Koba Pavliashvili’s face is swollen.

Today, on June 4, nineteen-year-old Koba Pavliahsvili stated to the judge that officers of the Gori Criminal Police Department were beating him during the night. The reason for their irritation was his request on lawyer.

Today, the detainees were sentenced to imprisonment.
