Zviad Ruadze, Kakheti Regional Correspondent for the Newspaper “24 Hours” Blames World Vision’s Representative in Georgia for Fraud

June 10, 2008

The reason for the accusations and recriminations is associated with a competition that was announced for regional media sources by World Vision. The competition was to address problems of street children. Zviad Ruadze and his co-author Maua Arutinov won the contest. According to the agreement they had to receive certificates for the participation in the competition but that never happened. The winners should have received modern journalistic equipment but the World Vision gave only a Dictaphone (that is valued at 70 GEL) and one cap. Zviad Ruadze thinks he has been deceived and intends to appeal to the central office of the international organization. “The organization did not intend to get in touch with the winners. When I was calling them to find out who was the winner in Kakheti region, they did not answer my calls. Then I called from different phone number and they replied I was the winner and could take my prize, the computer, whenever I wanted. They stated they were going to open their regional office in Telavi and I could get my prize there.”

Reportedly, the prizes turned out much cheaper. Zviad Ruadze requests corresponding bodies to study financial activities of the World Vision’s Georgian representation.
