French Court Granted Irakli Okruashvili with the Right to Leave the Country

A French court granted Irakli Okruashvili, former Georgian Defense Minister, with the right to leave the country.

Tamar Rukhadze, spokesperson of the political party “Movement for United Georgia”, reported to the Medianews that since the French side granted political asylum to Okruashvili, the French attorneys of the former minister had requested the court to release their client from all restrictions he was imposed after the release from prison. More exactly, the former minister could not leave France, approach the airport and he was under the supervision of French police.

Now, Irakli Okruashvili can travel to every country in the world with a Schengen Visa including Georgia. However, members of Okruashvili’s party state the former minister will not take advantage of the opportunity to visit Georgia anytime soon, as his safety cannot be guaranteed if he would return to his native Georgia.

Initially, Tbilisi city court found Irakli Okruashvili guilty for abusing his power and professional negligence; he was sentenced to eleven years in prison.
