One-Million-Dollar Sporting Complex in Lagodekhi Already Needs Reconstruction

June 23, 2008
The Sporting Complex constructed in a very short period time and personally opened by the Georgian President in December, 2007 with much fanfare in Lagodekhi already needs to be reconstructed and repaired. It is noteworthy that the complex has not even started functioning as yet and it is already in such a dire state.

The inner walls of the building are full of moisture and already damaged. The construction of the completed construction is of very low quality. Lagodekhi inhabitants can judge from the façade of the building of what is the situation with the integrity of the building.

The constructing company “Dasavlet Sakartvelos Hidro” could not meet its obligations even though it took on the responsibility of completing the construction work after having won an open tender.

The constructing company is also in arrears for salaries to its workers in the amount of 13 000 GEL.

The original plan was that the complex would be opened in 2007. The Lagodekhi local government had to accept the new building during the same period. Davit Namgalauri, head of Sports Department made a statement about this back in 2006.
Gia Natsvlishvili, President’s representative in Kakheti commented on sporting complex related problem and then promised Lagodekhians that he would personally control of construction project make sure that things would be done according to the plan, and if not, he would react to what was perceived to be shortcomings.

Despite governor’s strict statement, the constructing company “Dasavlet Sakartvelos Hidro” was not able or willing to fully fulfill its contract obligations.

Even though, approximately, one million dollars were allocated from the central budget for the construction of the sporting complex and now the state has to spend even more money to compensate for the poor construction and substandard facility.
