Investigation of Drug-Dealing High-ranking Official Dropped

July 2, 2008

According to the resolution of Vazha Maghradze, Deputy Kakheti Regional Prosecutor, issued on June 24, 2008 preliminary investigation on the criminal case against Davit Legashvili, the head of the Kakheti Regional Department of the Special Operative Department within the Internal Ministry was dropped. Legashvili was accused of having misused his power.

The resolution states that the criminal persecution was launched based on the newspaper materials that were provided to the Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office. The article reported that Giorgi Dalakishvili, former officer from Georgian Internal Ministry said in his interview with journalist Gela Mtivlishvili that he was arbitrarily detained according to administrative law and officials from the SOD and that he force to confess to being a drug addict. Giorgi Dalakishvili named the people who received drugs from SOD officials to sell.
The prosecutor defined in the resolution that the preliminary investigation was dropped because there was a lack of criminal activities but Giorgi Dalakishvili does not agree with the resolution. Dalakishvili claims that SOD high-ranking official is actually protected by Kakheti Regional Prosecutor’s Office and that he intends to appeal against the resolution dropping the case.

Short time ago Giorgi Dalakishvili was warned against supporting the United Opposition and to stop blaming SOD officials for various things.  Otherwise, he was threatened that he would end up in jail as that drugs would be planted on his person.
