New Water-Pipes Contaminate Drinking Water in Khidistavi

July 11, 2008

Economic and Infrastructure Service Department of the Gori Municipality Board has been replacing old water pipes with new ones already for one month in the village of Khidistavi, which is located in the Gori District. Drinking water for the village of Ateni is supplied from several reservoirs.

Those living in Khidistavi have applied to the Human Rights Center’s Shida Kartli Office and asked assistance in learning about the situation. They stated that certain private company installed smaller pipes instead of standard size pipes as what previously existed. The new pipes cannot stand the pressure of water the flow and most population are unable to be supplied with water in their yards.

The Economic and Infrastructure Service Department reported that certain “criminals” had intentionally stuck various things in the reservoir at the outflow and this action has hindered the normal flow of water. The Municipality intends to carry out works to resolve the problem and restore normal water flow.
