Family of Zavrashvilis with 11 Members Pleads for Assistance

September 9, 2008

Family of Zavrashvilis lives in the village of Vejini in Gurjaani district. They urge government for help. The house of Zavarashvilis was built with wood and it was damaged this year as a result of natural disaster.

Representatives of the regional authority promised assistance to the injured family but there is no aid for three months already. Five under-age children live in the family (two of them are twins who were born a short time ago).  During heavy rain and wind they shelter of the outside oven (Georgian bakery) because their house might pull down at every moment.

Davit Macharashvili, the head of the Social Development Service department of the Gurjaani Municipality Board, reported to the Human Rights Center that the board assisted the family with food. As for the request of the family to compensate the damage of the family as a result of natural disaster, the officials state that they cannot find similar funds in local budget. However, over 40 000 GEL were allocated to a reserve fund of the district budget, for the assistance of socially excluded people.
