Tsotne Gamsakhurdia Bailed Out

Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, the middle son of Zviad Gamsakhurdia, first democratically-elected President of Georgia was released from prison today.

Keti Bekauri, Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s attorney told news agency Media news that Gamsakhurdia has to put up bail in the amount of 20 000 GEL within 40 days. This verdict is a supplement to Gamsakhurdia’s previous sentence of pretrial detention.

It was the Office of Prosecutor General that addressed the court with the motion to change the previous sentence and to allow for Gamsakhurdia to be release from prison on bail. The court agreed and accepted the prosecutor’s motion.

Gamsakhurdia is charged for spying and conspiracy for toppling constitutional order, and participated in premeditated acts that resulted in the severe injury of a person. Gamsakhurdia was arrested in Tbilisi International Airport on September 3, 2008 when he was trying to depart for Moscow Russia via a connecting flight to Baku Azerbaijan.
