Inhabitants of Adigeni Municipality Drink Unsafe Water

September 26, 2008

A doctor-bacteriologist states that drinking water in Adigeni Municipality is not fit for to drink. The problem of dirty drinking water has been a real issue in Daba Adidgeni and nearby villages for many years.

The water is black and is full of various kinds of bacteria. Nino Petashvili, a bacteriologist took the water sample, made the appropriate test and found out that “the water is not fit for drinking. Moreover, the water is dangerous for humans. The dirty water can cause various infectious diseases.”

The population agrees with the doctor. “If you pour the water in a bucket and wait for several minutes you will see 5-centimeter-deep deposit. The children have swollen stomachs when they drink this water,” states Tamar Khozrevanidze, an inhabitant of Adigeni Municipality.

Nino Petashvili, bacteriologist and the locals say that they had appealed to the District Governor’s Office numerous times. However, no one responded to their request.

The Human Rights Center addresses the Adigeni Municipality and other responsible  bodies and requests that they pay proper attention to the immediate problem.
