Ban Ki-Moon: UN Observers Certainly Remain in Georgia

October 7, 2008

Ban Ki-Moon, secretary general of the UN stated that the principle of UN mission observation in Georgian conflict zones might be altered though UN observers would remain in Georgia.

Nevertheless, Moon did not clarify what the principle of UN Mission activities in Georgia will be in future.

He just stated that UN mission mandate expired on October 15; thus the mandate must be prolonged into the future.

Ban Ki-Moon pointed out that military conflict in Georgia was not a surprise for him because during recent years the situation in conflict regions were getting worse.
