First Centre of Humanitarian Aid for IDPs Residing in Private Houses

October 9, 2008

Today, the Georgian Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation with the support of Public Registry, World Food Program and World Vision opened the first humanitarian aid center for the IDPs residing in the houses of their relatives (address: Gldani a m/d Vekua str. 6, Tbilisi. building of sport palace next to the Akhmeteli Theatre).

IDP families sheltering in the houses of their relatives and friends in Tbilisi will have chance to obtain  food products provided by the World Food Program; previously, only those IDPs received humanitarian aid who lived in compactly residing areas and camps.

Individual portion of food is envisaged for 10 days and it contains: 3 kilos of wheat flour, 1, 5 kilo of macaroni, 50 grams of salt, and 325 grams of oil, 0, 5 kilo of beans and 200 grams of high-calorie cookies. The whole portion for one person is packed into one package.
Public Registry of the Georgian Ministry of Justice created a special program which will provide the distribution in on-line regime.

Each IDP will receive a receipt based on his/her ID, that will be checked in the data base of the ministry, and after providing the receipt the person will be able to get food. If the family was registered in the compactly residing areas and wants to unregister from there they should get new registration and get the food for family members in new humanitarian aid centers.

Three humanitarian aid centers will be opened in Tbilisi on the first stage.
