October 13, 2008

The inhabitants of Kitaani Village, Gurjaani District have been demanding for two years now that a bus contacting them with the district center provided. The locals told the Kakheti Information Center that they had addressed the Kakheti Regional, as well as Gurjaani District administration many times. However, their problem has not been solved till now.

The Kitaani Village which is inhabited by Ossetins is situated 15 km from the centre of Gurjaani The road from Kitaani to Gurjaani center crosses Chumlaki village. The road is so damaged that cars seldom make the journey.  It is very difficult for cars to move on this road. Therefore, the inhabitants of Kitaani prefer to go to Gurjaani center by foot. The Kitaanian children are in very difficult conditions as the Kitaani primary school has stopped functioning since 2007 and one part of children moved to the school in neighboring village and the other part totally stopped going to school.

Kakha Labuchidze, head of Gurjaani District states that the district administration is planning to reconstruct the road from Chumlaki village to the village of Kitaani. “This will give us the possibility to provide a mini bus rout from Gurjaani to Kitaani,” said Kakha Labuchidze in responding to the Kakheti Information Center.

It is noteworthy that local government representatives promised to rebuild the Gurjaani-Kitaani car road last year and this promise has not been kept.
