Inspector General of the Ministry of Healthcare Investigated Case of Socially Excluded Family

October 27, 2008

Reportedly, the Inspector General of the Ministry of Healthcare investigated the case of Givi Kristesiashvili, a resident of the village of Bakurtsikhe in Gurjaani district.

Givi Kristesiashvili has a heart and other organs on the right side; consequently, he needs permanent medical treatment but cannot afford because of poor social conditions. The family of Kistesiashvilis used the free medical policy within the Poverty Reduction State Program from 2006 to October 2007. However, because of social agent’s assessment the family lost the previously provided allowance. Since that, Givi Kristesiashvili appealed to the Agency for Social Agencies and requested them to explain the reason for having seized the allowance.

Ioseb Lobzhanidze, deputy director of the Agency for Social Subsidies, replied to him that the family lost the allowance because having provided false information to the agency. In addition, the administration of the agency explained to Kristesiashvili that the family did not have right to request repeated registration for the next three years.

Kristesiashvili applied to the Human Rights Centre for help that monitors the implementation of the Poverty Reduction State Program in Kakheti region. Since the organization filed a suit about the fact and TV Company Imedi made a special program about the family. Consequently the General Inspection within the Healthcare Ministry investigated the case on Kristesiashvili.

According to the preliminary information, Kristesiashvili’s family will receive allowance in near future.
