Niko Pirosmani’s Property Might Be Destroyed

November 10, 2008

Museum of Niko Pirosmani in the village of Mirzaani in Dedoplistskaro district has not been supplied with electricity already now for the last15 years. Personnel of the museum reported that they had applied to the Ministry of Culture several times and asked it to carry out rehabilitation works. However, nobody has ever assisted them. Rain is leaking in the building because of a damaged roof and it creates danger for the exhibits inside.

Anzor Madzgharashvili, director of the Niko Pirosmani Museum, reported that number of visitors has been reduced because of poor conditions faced in the museum. In addition, maximum salary of the personnel is a mere 80 GEL per month.

Officials of the Ministry of Culture do not concretize when the museum of Niko Pirosmani will be rehabilitated.
