Health of the Girl Injured in Sighnaghi Rehabilitation Worsens

November 20, 2008

The health condition of Eteri Chitinishvili, who was injured during the rehabilitation works of Sighnaghi has deteriorated. Parents of the girl applied to the Sighnaghi Municipality board and administration of Water Distribution Company of the district and requested 2,000 thousand GEL so that she can undergo medical treatment. However, no assistance was offered.

Reportedly, Eter Chitinashvili fell in the sewerage system on Sarajishvili Str. on September 24 2008 where her brother found her uncoconscious. She had various injuries on her body. Family sold everything but their house to help her. They applied to Bichiko Chutlashvili, director of the Water Distribution Company, and the local authority for financial assistance but no success. Chutlashvili stated his company is not going to reimburse medical treatment of the girl. Not one member of the Sighnaghi municipality board has even considered the problem.

Doctors state various medical examinations are necessary for Chitinashvili to reseive proper medical treatment but unfortunately the family cannot afford it.

Zina Beriashvili, mother of the injured girl, applied to the Human Rights Center for help. Lia Khuroshvili, lawyer for the center, has already asked Beriashvili to gather all necessary documents to prepare a civil suit; however, the lawyer stated that it will take a while for the court to discuss the case. In the meantime, Chitinashvili may be at risk of serious health complications.
