Dedoplistskaro District Locals Request Public School # 3 Be Reopened

November 20, 2008

Population of Dedoplistskaro district is requesting that Public School # 3 we restored. Locals reported that based on the decision of the Ministry of Education the school was closed a year ago. They also state that pupils of the closed school have to go to Public School # 2 that is several kilometers away from their places of residence.

Several teachers remain unemployed after the school was closed. The abandoned buildings were robbed and vandalized. Local residents state that although they applied to the Dedoplistskaro municipality board for help several times, the board did not pay attention to their request.

Residents of Dedoplistskaro reported that they are bothered with the fact that the former school building has turned into a gathering point for drug-addicts. Reportedly, the Ministry of Economical Development recently announced a tender to sell off the building.

Locals of Dedoplistskaro have gathered signatures to bring the school back to life and they will submit the petition to the Ministry of Education, Parliamentary Committee of Education and to the President. In the likely case that their petition will not be considered, they will launch protests.
