The Telavi District Governor Neglects Citizens even in the District Administration Hall

January 14, 2009

Zurab Butskhrikidze, Telavi District Governor, does not meet impoverished citizens. The district governor avoids listening to tens of people with various problems even when they follow him from his office to a car.

The astonished citizens reported the Human Rights Center about this. Leila has been visiting the district administration almost every day for the last month but her effort to meet the district governor has been unsuccessful so far. “My family is very poor. We were refused to involve Poverty Reduction State Program because we have some income - my husband’s pension for disability. My grandchild has been ill for the second month now. He needs immediate operation. The treatment costs 1 300 GEL. My family can not pay for the operation. We only have a house. If we sell the house the children will be left homeless. We sold everything we could sell. We have nothing left that can be sold. I have been trying to meet the district governor for more than a month but in vain. His secretary does not let anyone into the governor’s office. We follow the governor on his way from the office to his car hoping that he will listen to us at least in the office hall,” said socially excluded person.

The Telavi district administration considers that the citizens’ complaint is groundless. The District municipality administration claims the district governor meets citizens every day and not only on officially fixed meeting days.
