Deputy Kakheti Regional Governor Rebukes Journalists

January 29, 2009

Giorgi Sibashvili, Deputy Regional Governor, rebukes journalists and condemns their style of working.

Deputy Governor demands journalists to publish all information about regional and local authority with their comments regardless the fact it is necessary or not. For example, several days ago regional newspaper “Imedi” published article about “Officials from Telavi District Authority Paid 5 000 GEL for Sledging”. The article was prepared based on the information provided by opposition political parties and journalists for the newspaper. Comment of Zurab Butskhrikidze, Telavi district governor, was in the article where he denies the fact of sledging. However, he could not remember the exact amount of money allocated from the district budget to fund the event that was organized only for children.

It must be mentioned, that recently, Giorgi Sibashvili has stated that information spread by local media sources are “unpleasant” ; he particularly condemns those media sources who are funded from the local budget and orders them not to spread similar information.
