Branch of Public Defender’s Office Was Opened in Gori

The branch of Public Defender’s Office was established in Gori, Shida Karti region.
Various human rights organizations have become very active in Shida Kartli region especially after the August war. The Public Defender’s office was opened in the building of a sport school in Gori on February 5, 2009.

Giorgi Gotsiridze, the representative of the Public Defender of Georgia said that many people have started visiting their office shortly after it was actually launched. The office is mostly visited by the victims of August war. Currently, the Public Defender’s representation in Gori is mainly focused on monitoring IDP conditions in temporary shelters of IDP.

“If we observe any violations we will give subsequent recommendations to the government for their eradication,” said Gotsiridze.

The Public Defender’s office in Gori was presented in the building of administrative entity together with the presentation of first results of early recovery program of UNDP in Shida Kartli region. The office presentation was attended by Sozar Subari, Public Defender of Georgia, Jambul Bakuradze,  Deputy State Minister of Georgia on Regional Issues, Rusudan Kervalishvili, Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and the Chairperson of Consulting Council on Gender Equality.
