Luka Ramazashvili- A Political Prisoner?

February 11, 2009

The Human Rights Commission investigating cases of political prisoners will probably grant the status of a political prisoner to Luka Ramazashvili, a business partner of Gogi Topadze (famous Georgian business person and the leader of political party “Industry will Save Georgia”) who was representative of the party in Kakheti region.

Nana Kakabadze, the member of the Commission, said that the commission has published the list of 9 political prisoners so far. “We continue working. The case of Luka Ramazashvili is being considered by our attorneys,” said Nana Kakabadze, the chairperson of NGO Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights. The commission is composed with NGO representatives and the Conservative Party as well.

Luka Ramazashvili was detained in January 2006. The Telavi District Court sentenced him to 8 years of imprisonment for appropriating state property, robbery and extortion.
