Victims of Landslide Urge for Help

Family of Dumbadzes with eight members is victim of the landslide. They have been urging the government for help for six months already. Landslide in September, 2009 damaged three families in the village of Akhalsheni. None of them were aided yet.

The plot of the Dumbadzes is still covered with silt. Family members cleaned the yard with the support of heavy technique with their own expenses. During every rain, under-age members of the family and daughter-in-law are sent to their neighbor’s. Geologists concluded that the territory is dangerous for life. “Geologists told us that life is impossible here. Not a single governmental official has ever visited our place not to speak about the assistance. They complain about lack of money,” said Zurab Dumbadze.

Rezo Turmanidze, representative of Khelvachauri district governor to the village, said that the families would be assisted though he cannot say when exactly. “I do not know what kind of assistance will be provided for them-financial or resettlement. This issue is being discussed and the government will resolve it definitely.”
