Archil Benidze from Labor Party Was Set Free from Trial

March 19, 2009

At the trial of Archil Benidze, member of the Labor Party of Georgia, judge decided to set him free in exchange of the bail.

Mariam Tsutskiridze, lawyer for Benidze, reported to Medianews that seven months later representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office stated Archil Benidze was not dangerous person for the society and he was bailed instead imprisonment.

“Only today the prosecutor’s office realized that Benidze does not have criminal record; he is honest person and his freedom cannot create danger for the society. My client was bailed instead imprisonment and was set free from the court room. The amount of the bail is 2 000 GEL and he has to pay the sum within one month. However, he was not discharged and court proceedings still continue”, said Mariam Tsutskiridze.

Officers from Constitutional Security Department arrested Archil Benidze seven months ago under charge of money laundering.
