Non-Governmental Organizations Published a Report on the Monitoring of the Privatization of Agricultural Land

March 24, 2009

Non-governmental organizations published a report on the monitoring of the privatization process of agricultural land.

Levan Aleksishvili, project director, stated the project aimed to monitor the activities of public agencies during the privatization process, to inform local population and involve them in the on-going process. “The monitoring revealed that the privatization process was extended and chaotic. The current legislative base does not enable lawful management of the process. It must be pointed out that public agencies participating in the process do not have valuable information about efficient implementation of the privatization process,” said Aleksishvili.

NGOs provided recommendations to the Committees of Economics and Economic Policy, of Agricultural and Legal Issues within the Parliament of Georgia to ensure lawful implementation of the privatization process.

Levan Aleksishvili reported that the parliament will discuss the provided recommendations in the near future.
