The Fate of News Program on Sagarejo District TV Company Is Still Obscure

April 1, 2009

It is not settled yet whether the news program “Digest” will be aired by the Sagarejo district TV Company “Tvali” or not.

The news room of the regional TV Company ceased broadcasting in August of 2008 and since then “Tgvali” is broadcasting programs of national TV Company “Rustavi 2”. Correspondents for the regional TV station reported to the Kakheti Information Center that the administration of the TV Company explained to them that the reason why the news program was stopped was a lack of funds. We tried to find out exact reasons with Tamar Kurdovanidze, director of the TV Company, but despite many attempts it turned out impossible.

TV Company “Tvali” has been broadcasting since 1994 in Sagarejo district; it belongs to Tamar Kurdovanidze, mother of Gia Natsvlishvili, head of the Olympic Committee of Georgia.

According to official data, the TV Company used to be funded by a local budget for informational and advertising service. Gia Chalatashvili, the Sagarejo district governor, stated that the district administration has not abolished the contract with the TV Company. “Consequently, we were and are ready to pay the TV Company for the implemented service. However, the news programs are not restored yet,” said the district governor.
