Badri Bitsadze Blames Vano Merabishvili for Persecution of His Supporters

April 9, 2009

Badri Bitsadze, head of the nongovernmental organization “Frontier Security and Migration Research Center” blames the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the attack on Kakha Khandoshvili, founder of the organization.

Bitsadze stated at the press-conference that he blames law enforcers for beating Kakha Khandoshvili. According to his information the harassers seized mobile phone from him since they wanted to check the recorded numbers on his phone. After that, Vano Merabishvili got in touch with the Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan and requested them to look for certain Pridon Abesadze whose name was recorded on Khandoshvili’s phone. Pridon Abesadze was called to the Georgian Embassy and interrogated him. He was asked whether he had really given money to Kakha Khandoshvili for Badri Bitsadze.

“This fact once more demonstrates that attack on Kakha Khandoshvili was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Vano Merabishvili personally organized it. Consequently, the attempt of the Ministry to expose the incident as ordinary crime is groundless,” said Badri Bitsadze.

Bitsadze added that on April 6 patrol policeman warned Kakha Khandoshvili in written form against participating in the protest demonstration on April 9. Badri Bitsadze suggested Vano Merabishvili to stop oppression of his supporters,

Kakha Khandoshvili was attacked several days ago.
