Dachi Tsaguria – Members of the Movement “Why?” Were Attacked Again

April 10, 2009

Members of the public movement “Why?”were attacked by masked people again – Dachi Tsaguria, a member of the “Youth Movement” reported to Interpressnews about the incident. According to him, Irakli Khukhuneishvili, Lasha Kopaliani, Otar Chelidze, Natia Archvadze and Elene Baramidze were attacked. “They were going home after the demonstration when masked people in black clothes blocked their road with three cars. The harassers physically assaulted the demonstrators with truncheons and electric shocks,” said Tsaguria.

He added that two of the cars were Toyota Land-cruisers and the third one was a BMW “X 5”. The victims reported in writing to the Public Defender’s Office about the incident. Tsaguria stated that they had noticed the same cars 3 or 4 times on April 9 in the city. The people in the cars attacked elderly people close to the Cathedral “Sameba” and insulted them.

“I call upon Vano Merabishvili, the Minister of Interior, to stop the persecution of the people. If he does not stop the death brigades, the minister will be severely punished by the Georgian people,” said Tsaguria.
