Ministry of Internal Affairs Refused to Provide Sozar Subari with Video Recordings Made Near Parliament Building

April 13, 2009

The public defender asks for provision of video materials which were recorded by the cameras installed in front of the Parliament building.

According to Public Defender Sozar Subari, it cannot be technically difficult to provide their office with the recordings since all the cameras are installed near the parliament building and the argument of the Ministry of Internal Affairs that they do not have enough staff to provide video-recordings on time is unreasonable.

As public defender stated he petitioned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to provide him with the video-recording, but they refused for they did not have technical personnel.

According to Sozar Subari, he petitioned to the patrol police department to launch investigation on the fact, but they refused because many criminal offences have happened recently and they do not have enough sources to handle all investigations.

At the Ministry of Internal Affairs he was informed about the threat of provocation so they could not come to the parliament building and begin investigation. Sozar Subari stated that a tent for media center and the apparatus were destroyed and they have not begun an investigation yet. Sozar Subari is in front of the parliament building now, where part of opposition leaders including Nino Burjanadze is in front of the parliament building..
