Ossetians Detained Observers from the OSCE

April 21, 2009

This morning Ossetian separatists detained observers of the OSCE for illegal crossing of the border.

“A car of OSCE observers crossed the border to South Ossetia illegally; therefore Ossetian border guards detained them,” stated Eduard Kokoyti, de-facto president of South Ossetia. He declared that “observers will be taken to the de-facto Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tskhinvali.”

According to Kokoyti, “the action of the OSCE observers was provocative and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the South Ossetia will make a special statement about the issue.” The Georgian side has not been informed about the detention yet.
