Officers of the Ministry of Interior Arrested 11 Supporters of the Opposition Parties

April 24, 2009

Member of the Conservative Party Bezhan Gunava stated that officers from the Ministry of Interior arrested 11 military officers who attended the rallies of the non-parliamentary opposition. “11 military officers who attended our rallies were arrested by policemen. They were put in prison for 30 days though we do not know what has happened with those people,” said Gunava at the rally in front of the Parliament building.

Gunava commented about the incident that occurred in Liberty Square yesterday morning and stated that the members of the national Movement took part in the incident.

“We know the names of two of them; they are Natia Basilia and Marine Suladze, residents of Machabeli street,” said Gunava.

Yesterday morning the residents of the neighborhood streets moved the imitated cells from the Liberty Square to the pavements; however, later on, the members of the National Forum blocked the street with the cells again. It resulted into the quarrel between the local residents and members of the National Forum.
