Public Defender Does Not Expect Incidents of Violence against Demonstrators to Be Investigated

April 27, 2009

The Public Defender and opposition parties condemn the government’s effort to make violent provocations once more.

Today video records made by mobile phone were presented in the office of the Public Defender, showing Vasil Sanodze, the former head of the General Inspection standing on the balcony of the Ministry of Internal Government and throwing a plastic bag full of water to the demonstrators.

As the records show, someone from the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs shot darts to the opposition activists standing nearby the building. Sozar Subari, the Public Defender, is concerned by the fact that Sanodze still remains in the same position at the Ministry of Internal Affairs despite his past activities. As the Public Defender said, considering this fact there is no hope that the approximately 80 incidents of violence used towards the opposition demonstrators will be investigated.
