Community Defender Demands Impartial Investigation on Wounding Tengo Beridze from Conservative Party

May 1, 2009

Representatives of the Community Defender demand impartial investigation on wounding Tengo Beridze from the Conservative Party.

Onise Mebonia, member of the Community Defender, stated at the press-conference today that investigation team arrived at the scene of incident 5 hours later only after the attorneys personally called at the Tbilisi Police Department and categorically demanded them to search the place. Meanwhile the scene of crime was protected by the lawyers and demonstrators. According to Mebonia the investigation has not questioned the witnesses; has not seen the video-recording where Vasil Sanodze (head of the General Inspection) and three other people with sport-barreled gun were standing on the balcony of the General Inspection. Tengo Beridze was wounded 5 minutes after the video-recording was done. According to the preliminary data he was wounded from the sport-barreled gun.

The attorney stated that the investigation has not interrogated Vasil Sanodze and three more people from the video-recording. The expertise was not conducted at all.

“The investigator did not search the room of the General Inspection from where the victim was shot,” said Onise Mebonia.
