Tomorrow Opposition Assigns 72-Hour Time-Limit to Mikheil Saakashvili for Decision

May 5, 2009

Tomorrow opposition starts blockade of entries to Tbilisi and central high-ways that is a warning step taken by the opposition parties.

An opposition leader Gubaz Saniidze from the National Forum stated about the recent decision at the briefing with the Public Broadcasting.

On May 5 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm entries to Tbilisi will be blockaded. More precisely, blockades will be arranged at Natakhtari entry from the western Georgia, on Kakheti central high-way, entry from the eastern Georgia, at Gombori checkpoint and at the cross-road of Rustavi and Marneuli. On May 8 the road will be blockaded on regional central high ways.

“We will assign 72-hour time-limit to Saakashvili to satisfy the will of the population on his resignation and start dialogue with opposition on peaceful and constitutional assignment of the authority to the opposition. Unless the demands are satisfied on May 11 car-blockade will be arranged on central high-way and the exact places will be reported on May 10,” it is said in the statement of the organization HQ of the April 9 rallies; the statement was announced by Gubaz Sanikidze.

According to the statement the decision was made by the HQ after the government neglected the will of the population.

“During one month of the rally hundreds thousands of our citizens stated they wanted resignation of Mikheil Saakashvili though the government demonstrated their inability to offer any way-out from the crisis. The president, parliament and government ceased their activities,” said Gubaz Sanikidze.
