Demonstrators Were Dispersed in Ingorokva Street

June 15, 2009

Cells were dispersed in Ingorokva Street near the State Chancellery. Five demonstrators were beaten and then taken to hospital by ambulance. One of them Levan Talabadze stated that after 12:00 pm nearly 200-300 people attacked them with so-called iron snubs.

Talabadze stated that the attackers were officers from the Security Department and Special Unit; he can recognize them.

Talabadze excluded participation of the population in this dispersal and added that residents of the street assisted the demonstrators.

One more demonstrator Erekle Tsotsnidze said that attackers were armed with iron sticks and beat demonstrators with them.

“The attackers had guns but did not use them,” said Tsotsnidze.

Cells in Ingorokva Street are dismantled, the road is not blocked any longer, however demonstrators claim that they will place cells again and the street will be blocked again.

Leaders of opposition parties Kakha Kukava, Mamuka Katsitadze and Koba Davitashvili arrived at the place.

Koba Davitashvili asked the ambassadors of Czech Republic and the USA whether they generally condemn the violence.
