MPs Visited Detainees and Request Medical Treatment for Them

June 25, 2009

Today, MPs Rusudan Kervalishvili and Jondi Baghaturia visited detained activists of the opposition parties in the pre-trial detention setting N 3.

Having left the police department MPs requested medical treatment for two detainees Dachi Tsaguria and Misha Meskhi.

Jondi Baghaturia said that he petitioned to the Ministry of Healthcare and requested them to examine the activists. He said Misha Meskhi and Dachi Tsaguria shall be taken to hospital immediately.

“They look brave and do not feel desperate. 8 out of 19 detainees were beaten; however much time has passed since they were arrested and no injuries can be observed on their bodies now. Only Dachi Tsaguria has some injuries on his hand,” said Baghaturia and requested the detainees to stop hunger-strike.

Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Rusudan Kervalishvili also stated that 9 days after the detention the inmates do not have any visible injuries.

“8 out of 19 people were placed in the detention setting with various injuries. It would be nice if neurologist will examine Tsaguria. He says he was beaten. Some of the detainees, Tsaguria among them, need medical assistance. They need consulting with neurologist in order to estimate whether they have brain concussion or not,” said Rusudan Kervalishvili.

She talked about various topics with the young people and one of them was protest of the activists.

Kervalishvili said that detainees did not complain about prison administration.
