Christian-Democrats Protest Closing the Schools with Small Contingent

June 25, 2009

The Christian-Democrats protest closing of public schools with small contingents. Giorgi Akhvlediani, head of parliamentary fraction of Christian-Democrats, stated at the briefing that several schools have already been closed as a result of optimization process. He thinks it demonstrates the inefficiency of the reforms in education system.

The MP said the problem is equal in every region and very often the families have to change their place of residence because the schools are closed in their neighborhood.

Despite many promises of the president neither voucherization process was observed nor was the process of optimization stopped. Consequently, Christian-Democrats request the Ministry of Education and Science to stop the process of closing schools in the villages.

Regarding the problem, next week, Christian-Democrats will invite Nika Gvaramia, Minister of Education and Science to the session.
