The People Who Live in the Village of Bakurtsikhe Accuse the Gurjaani District Administration of Corruption

August 5, 2009

The people who live in the village  of Bakurtsikhe village, Gurjaani District, accuse the district administration of corruption. They say that the leaders of the village  administration  in coordination with the district administration leaders have embezzled  funds allotted to the village aid program.

“20 000 GEL was allotted  to the village of Bakurtsikhe in  this program but it was not spent for that  purpose. Roads should have been repaired but nothing was done. Meanwhile, the situation with the roads has deteriorated. We have not had drinking water in the village for 40 years now. They have taken the stones out of the ravine and that was it. The representatives of the village administration embezzled the money. They did not even ask what were our needs. They visited us only in the pre election period,” said the inhabitants of Bakurtsikhe village.

Giorgi Chivilashvili, the Gurjaani District Governor states that the accusation of the villagers is absurd. “They can apply to the prosecutor’s office and it will investigate their allegations,” said the district governor.
