Teo Tlashadze Claims It is planned to Arrest the Gori City Council Members from Movement For United Georgia

August 11, 2009

Teo Tlashadze, one of the leaders of political party Movement for United Georgia claims (based on the information received from one high ranking police officer) that it is planned to arrest those representatives of Movement for United Georgia that are Gori City Council members for their political activities.

Teo Tlashadze claims that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is planning to initiate a criminal case against Teimuraz Apkhazashvili, Kakha Ergemlidze and Severyan Kareli in the near future. In particular, it is planned to plant weapons and drugs on them in the next few days. These facts will serve as a reason for their arrest.

The Movement for United Georgia calls the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia upon refraining from illegal persecution and arrest of supporters of opposition. “We want to warn the Ministry of Internal Affairs if the Gori City Council members from our party are arrested with this scenario (arrested under the charges of possession of weapons and drugs) their detention will be considered as a new wave of political repressions, states Teo Tlashadze.
